People's wellbeing is at the center of everything we do. From commercial agreements to the design of our internal structures. We carefully listen to all people involved, ensuring we consider their needs and concerns in every decision we make. Our organizational processes are designed to reflect this commitment, seeking to create safe and motivating work environments.
A STORY OF HOW WE LIVE THE CARE OF PEOPLE
In the IT world, it is common to perform deployments at night or on the weekend to avoid affecting users. Generally, they are procedures that require some manual intervention to be performed.
At Grupo Esfera, we promote the practices of automated testing, continuous integration and automated deployments, which allow these deployments to be made when necessary, improving the quality of the software and the lives of the people involved in its construction.
When we started working with a new client, they assumed that someone from the Grupo Esfera team would support the production deployment between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. At first it went unnoticed that no one was connecting until they had a question about one of the branches of the code and canceled the deployment. At the next meeting, the request was more explicit: someone had to connect between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Faced with this situation, the Grupo Esfera team deliberated internally and came to the conclusion that the problem was in how the code branches were managed. They realized that by increasing their integration frequency, they could avoid these issues without requiring after-hours deployments.
They then decided that they would not connect overnight and presented a list of proposals to the client to ensure better management of the integrations.
What is significant about this story is that the team already knew that they had the unconditional support of Grupo Esfera to make this decision, which allowed them to establish limits without fear. There was no need to consult or ask for permission to contradict the client, to set limits. Thus, we demonstrated that working in technology and taking care of personal and professional well-being is not only possible, but fundamental to our approach.
